About Me

Heather S. Cole (that’s me!) is a writer, archivist and public historian living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

I am available for book signings and to give talks at libraries, historical societies, schools and other organizations. Topics include: any (or all) of the the Virginia-born or Ohio-born U.S. presidents, homeschooling American history, writing and publishing (including self-publishing) local history books, and Archives 101: the basics of preserving family photos and papers.

I also do freelance work organizing and digitizing family and small organizational archives, writing and ghostwriting features and organizational histories, and editing/proofreading non-fiction writing of any length. Rates vary depending on the size of the project.

In 2023, I launched a small publishing company specializing in local history and memoir: Rock Street Press.

I am also always interested in talking about interesting local history projects or your favorite history museum.
